GLENN DANZIG's "Black Aria"
is a completely instrumental music presentation that is nothing
like Danzig's ever done before.
This is not really a 'metal' album per se, but more an unusual
soundtrack of Danzig's creative
mental imagery put to music. This instrumental album features
the writing and keyboard / synthesizer arrangements of Glenn
Danzig and there are no Danzig
vocals to be heard on this album.
"Black
Aria"
features the moody dark side of Danzig;
laced with creative keyboard sounds that come across like
a soundtrack to the movie "Dune",
a strange sci-fi movie thriller, or maybe even to a video
game like "Return to Castle Wolfenstein".
By all accounts this is not the typical music you would expect
to hear from Danzig. He digs
deep into his mind and soul to create a dark and unusual mixture
of pounding themes and gloomy subdued sound effects.
The tracks of the album grind on slowly
like a machine trudging through a post apocalyptic scrap yard...
moving from one state of existence to the next. There are
a lot of repetitive thumping sounds and clamoring effects
that shape the tracks into distinct themed anthems. The album
has a certain melancholy feeling running throughout that holds
it together as a dark, moody conceptual release.
Overall GLENN
DANZIG "Black Aria"
has enough diversity and creative energy to keep it pretty
interesting. The arrangements are thoughtful and provoking
and the album flows decently. The music could have used a
few more unusual synthesizer sounds and some more percussion
effects. To me, the release did lack aggressiveness and tempo
speed, but obviously Danzig
wanted to keep it dark and steady. Not bad, but more of an
album to listen to in the background. Like I said, this release
would probably make a great soundtrack for a sci-fi movie!
