FAITHFUL BREATH
is hard rocking Eurometal group that has a feel and sound
very much similar to that of the popular German metal band,
ACCEPT. The songs on 'Skol'
are very well written and pretty enjoyable to listen
to if you're into older melodic headbangin' metal from the
1980's. The vocals of HEINRICH MIKUS
are very competent and remind me
a lot of UDO DIRKSCHNEIDER, front man of ACCEPT and U.D.O..
Henrich keeps the album together
with his raspy and aggressive vocals ... and there's also
a decent amount of backup chanting courtesy of the other band
members.
The guitar playing of THILO
HERRMANN won't blow you away compared to many of
the fretmasters out there, but his guitar has a heavy crunch
to it and his tasteful melodic solos have a lot of feel are
very intelligent. Also, he uses his whammy bar quite nicely.
The drumming of JURGEN DUSTERLOH
is nothing to write home about but he does a solid job with
the tempo changes and higher paced tracks as does his bottom
end bass guitar partner, PETER DELL.
The 'Skol' album zips
by rather quickly (it's only 34:51 in length) but it's packed
with some good hard rockin' tracks. The tempo of the album
is pretty steady and consistent...'Start
it up', the first track on the album has an incredibly
catchy chorus and some blazing guitarwork...a good intro for
the album. The next few songs are rockin' as well, with typical
lyrics about chicks, leather and rock&roll.'Double
Dealer', 'Lady M.', 'Inside out' and
'Crazy in metal' will get you stamping your
feet and pumping your fists a bit. The 5th track, 'We
want you' is the bands attempt at a
power ballad / rock anthem...it's got it's highpoints but
for the most part doesn't hit home too well.
Overall FAITHFUL
BREATH 'Skol'
is something you'd want to pick up if you need a fix of older
80's metal. There aren't any songs on the album that stand
out above the rest or will go down as being metal masterpieces,
but it's not wimpy ass shit either. These guys were probably
too similar sounding to ACCEPT to make a name for themsleves.
It's worth a listen if you like the older stuff!
