GRAND ALCHEMIST "Intervening Coma-Celebration"
is an interesting blend of magnificent keyboard sounds, pounding
drum beats, crunchy guitars and dark surrounding vocals. The
songs on Intervening Coma-Celebration
have a lot of catchy guitar riffs and soft interludes that
keep you constantly tuned into the flowing music. The somewhat
unintelligeable vocals growl along in the distance a bit in
the back of the mix, typical of the black metal style.
The creative keyboard playing by SIGURD
dominates much of the album and is very impressive throughout.
Also very impressive is the guitar playing and tone from Terje.
His riffs and solos are incredibly fluid and melodic.
You could easliy stick him in a power metal band and he would
not dissappoint.
Overall Intervening
Coma-Celebration is a very well written and arranged
aggressive metal album. It starts out with a brilliant instrumental
'Faced', that shows off
the band's skills as songwriters. From there the album picks
up speed and aggressiveness. ' A
nailed visual effect' features some great tempo
changes and brilliant musical arrangements. The album doesn't
let up there, 'Down again'
bashes your brain in with some fantastic raging drums, extended
guitar jamming and fantastic synth sounds. The album is laced
with soothing keyboard sounds and mixes surprisingly well
with the thumping bass of ROLAND
and the blasting double-bass drum beats and cymbal smashing
of STOELAN. Although the
vocals of SIGURD were
certainly very competent, the lack of range or diversity left
some of the songs sounding a bit too similar.
If you are looking for a strong dose
of intelligent, well arranged, extreme metal then GRAND
ALCHEMIST "Intervening Coma-Celebration" is
the right medicine for you! A great new aggressive metal band
that deserves a good long listen!
