Kreator "Renewal"
is an aggressive full length
thrash album from these perennial metal masters. The album
is filled with crunchy distorted riffs, scratchy throaty vocals,
intricate time changes, and high-speed drum bashing. The songs
are well written and show off the band's technical arrangement
abilities.
Mille Petrozza handles
all of the vocal duties and chips in with some stellar rhythm
guitar-work as well. His throaty vocal tones are pretty decent
and he consistently
delivers the goods in his own extreme
metal style. It's not a chore to listen to him scream and
chant out the lyrics. Frank
Gosdzik rips and shreds on the lead
guitar and his solos are very intense throughout the album,
with a solid crunchy tone. Ron
Fioretti and
Jurgen "Ventor" Reil
hold the album
together during the quick time changes with some heavy bottom
end and rapid fire beats.
"Renewal" has
a lot of hard hitting, brutal thrash tracks. The title track,
'Renewal'
is by far one of the catchiest and coolest tracks on the album.
Right away the aggressive tempo gets you shaking your head
and stamping your feet to the beat...a great metal masterpiece.
'Reflection' is
another great pounding metal track...a few tempo changes...and
more studio effects on this track. The speed on this album
is great and the band delivers some intense guitar-work
and fist-banging mania! Track
9, 'Depression
Unrest', is a pretty unusual
track that features a clear guitar tone intro...then blasts
into some rapid thrash riffs and wierd percussive sounds.
It builds quickly and has one of the best extended guitar
solos on the album, with lots of feel and tonal playing.
Kreator "Renewal"
is a well put together thrash / speed
metal album that should delight fans of aggressive music.
The music is powerful and well recorded and delivers more
winners than losers. Not really any glaring weak spots to
point out for the album. Older thrash that is worth having
on hand and cranking to the max from time to time.
