NEVERMORE 'Dead
Heart in a Dead World' is the current
day extreme metal manic's wet dream. NEVERMORE
has consistently shown that their brand of new, aggressive
metal is constantly improving and being refined into a higher
form of music. Not many bands today can compare to their technical
song writing and skilled, intelligent metal presentation.
The intense, powerful feeling and musical execution of the
tracks on 'Dead Heart in a Dead
World' are groundbreaking and
unparalled. Guitarist JEFF LOOMIS'
playing is so intense and intricate that it will
easily blow you away after just one listen. His guitar tone
is incredible and his riffs and solos are so blazing that
he must have to keep a fire extinguisher close by to continually
put out the fire on his fretboard! This guy scorches and he's
not the only one that's on fire. Drummer VAN
WILLIAMS, pounds away in a rapid
fire assault that is both astonishingly fast and intricate.
Wild double bass beats, awesome fills and fantastic time changes
are rampant throughout 'Dead
Heart in a Dead World'...
and did I fail to mention the fact that the drums as well
as the rest of the album were masterfully recorded. Former
SANCTUARY
frontman, Warrel
Dane brings
his unique and intelligent vocal sound to the mix (though
he suffers from the occasional repetitive droning). His singing
is very distinctive and easily recognized if you are familiar
with his past work. His vocals hold the intricate NEVERMORE
metal web together and gives the band
an intense edge that puts it high above many of the other
extreme metal acts that are out there. Not to be forgotten
is JIM SHEPPARD,
who passionately lays down the bass lines that give the bottom
end a much needed kick in the pants.
NEVERMORE's 'Dead
Heart in a Dead World' is a super blend of high octane
metal and human adrenaline that has been keenly focused by
the four band members to create this impressive production.
The stellar playing on the album is aggressive, refined and
shows off NEVERMORE's
musical power and energy. The intro
track, 'Narcosynthesis' is
easily my favorite track on the album. It has all the ingredients
to satisfy any metal-head...brutal punding beats, high speed
vocal intensity and one of the best guitar solos I've heard
in a long time. I dare you to crank 'Inside
four walls' at full volume because you're likely
to suffer instant heart stoppage from the rapid-fire double
bass drum thumping and brutal riffing. 'Heart
collector' fills the airwaves with sensitive yet
powerful feelings of emotion...a slower paced masterpiece.
The
only possible negative that can be pointed out on the album
is that Dane's vocals
have a tendency to drone on a bit at times, giving you the
feeling that the song are overly similar. The more you listen
the less this is apparent. Nonetheless, 'Dead
Heart in a Dead World'
is certain to give your speakers a massive
workout once you pop this bad boy into the CD player! Well
worth the listen!!!
